The following agencies can help you find and choose child care. They may also help pay for that care. If you work and have children under the age of thirteen, you might qualify for help in paying for their care while you work. If you can't afford to work because of child care costs, this could make work affordable! Your weekly child care bill could be as low as $5! Funding comes from Federal Block grants and the state. The program is administered by your Local CCIS (Child Care Information Service, formerly known as the Local Management Agency or "LMA").
You and your spouse/companion must be working at least 25 hours a week, three days a week or more. The child care must be necessary to allow you to work. Those leaving welfare and starting to work are a high priority for this subsidy. This is a Parent Choice system. You may choose any child care provider which has or is willing to enter into an agreement with your CCIS. Thousands of providers throughout Pennsylvania, even bordering the state, participate. There are CCISs for each county in the state. Contact the email address at the bottom of this list if your county is not here, or check the blue pages of your local telephone directory.
Depending upon where you live, call one of the numbers listed below. Fill out the application and submit the information requested. Eligibility and priority are based upon income level and other factors, adjusted for family size. You will know if you qualify within thirty days. Some receive the subsidy within a month, others wait longer. Availability differs at each CCIS.
